Once upon a birthday party, in a land not so far away, there was a young birthday girl named Michelle.
Michelle was not very old and she lived in a massive country called, America. Michelle was walking home from work, thinking about birthday cake and presents.
Suddenly a giant Pink squirrel jumped out from behind her mobile Google Buzz and pounced on Michelle! But as she was about to scream for help, Michelle realized that the Pink squirrel was only licking at her face. In fact, the furry kisses tickled! Michelle giggled and decided to keep the giant Pink squirrel as a pet.
And on the way home she decided to name her new pet ''Stephanie.'' When Michelle and Stephanie finally got home, her mum was standing on the front porch. And boy was she surprised to see the Pink squirrel following Michelle home!
''What in the world is that?'' cried Michelle's mother. ''It's a giant Pink squirrel,'' answered Michelle.
''I can see that, Michelle, but what in the world is it doing here?''
''It's my birthday. Can it be my new pet?'' answered Michelle.
''Oh, dear,'' said Michelle's mum. ''I wouldn't like to get your hopes up. You know your father doesn't like Pink squirrels. But, it is kind of cute. And it is your birthday after all. I suppose you can keep it while I finish frosting your birthday cake.''
And with that, Michelle hugged Stephanie and led her new pet into the house -- even though she knew her father would probably not let it stay.
Once in the house, Michelle and Stephanie played, until Michelle's favourite television show, ''America’s got Talent'' started. Then Michelle forgot all about watching Stephanie. But half way through the programme, Michelle heard her father shout, ''Michelle Marie! Get in the office...NOW!!''
Michelle rushed into the office, where her dad was pointing toward the table. ''Look what your new pet did!'' he said.
Michelle looked. There were balloons and streamers, hanging from the ceiling. Mom and Dad were wearing party hats. But right in the middle of the table, were the messy remains of her birthday cake!
''I'll clean it up Dad,'' said Michelle.
''I'm sorry Michelle, said her father, ''but a giant Pink squirrel is not really a good pet. You'd better find it a new home.''
So Michelle looked to see where Stephanie was hiding. Fairly soon afterwards, Michelle found Stephanie crouched beneath the table where Michelle did her computing. ''Come on, Stephanie, you have to go. And hey, don't look at me that way, I'm not the one who ate the cake and made a mess!'' said Michelle.
Michelle started to lead Stephanie out of the house and down to the local pet shop. Michelle knew the store owner would soon find Stephanie a good home. So after hugging Stephanie and saying good-bye, she thanked the owner of the shop, and walked back home.
Michelle didn't notice the Pink squirrel was following her!
Back home, Michelle sadly slurped at her drink. But Michelle's father reminded her about the mess she still had to clean up. Halfway through the clean-up, Michelle suddenly noticed Stephanie in the doorway.
''Stephanie! You're back!'' she shouted. Stephanie hopped up and down and gave everyone furry, tickling, BIG kisses.
Even Michelle's father giggled. ''I guess that Pink squirrel can stay,'' said Michelle's Dad. Stephanie was a birthday pet after all!
Michelle's Mom baked her another birthday cake, and they all celebrated together in style.
What a happy birthday it was!
